The GATE 2016 examination will consists of a single paper of 3-hour duration. The examination will contain 65 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks. There will be two types of question that will be asked in GATE 2016 exam.

1. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ): The MCQ questions carrying 1 or 2 marks each will be asked in all papers. Four choices will be given for a question and the candidate has to select the right answer from the given choices.

2. Numerical Answer Questions: The candidates have to write down the numerical value of the question in the provided box of the examination with the online keyboard.

3. Marking Scheme: For 1-mark multiple-choice questions, 1/3 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer. Likewise, for 2-marks multiple-choice questions, 2/3 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer. However, please note that there is no negative marking for numerical answer type questions.
